Steve Lawler was born in Birmingham in 1973 and began his career staging illegal parties in a tunnel under the M42 motorway in the early 1990s before securing a residency at Liverpool's Cream in 1997. He became known internationally for his residency at Space in Ibiza, earning him the nickname 'King of Space', and went on to hold a long-running night at London's The End called Harlem Nights. He founded VIVa MUSiC in 2006, a label that has served as the home for much of his own output as well as releases by other artists, and he has also appeared on Drumcode, Cocoon, Hot Creations and Systematic, among others. A five-time DJ Awards winner, Lawler is particularly known for his Lights Out mix series and for sets that fuse house, techno and deeper club sounds.
