Max Graham was born in London and settled in Ottawa in 1989, where he became a central figure in the Canadian electronic music scene, co-founding the influential Atomic club and building a reputation for lengthy, immersive DJ sets. His output is primarily progressive house and progressive trance under his own name, with techno work released under the alias Shelter, and he has owned three labels including ShineMusic and Cycles Music. His Cycles compilation series, which ran to eight volumes from 2008, earned him a Juno Award nomination. He is well regarded for his open-to-close sets, typically running six to eight hours.
